About the concert

For more than a thousand years, pilgrims have walked the Camino de Santiago across northern Spain to the shrine of St James at Santiago de Compostela. In Path of Miracles, Joby Talbot follows them every step of the way.

Written in 2005 for the choir Tenebrae, the work has become one of the best-loved pieces of modern choral music. It is sung entirely unaccompanied and lasts about an hour, in four movements named after the great stopping places on the route: Roncesvalles, Burgos, León and Santiago. Robert Dickinson's text weaves English together with Latin, Spanish, Basque and the songs of medieval pilgrims, so that the voices of travellers across the centuries seem to walk alongside one another.

The music moves from the dark, murmuring opening in the Pyrenees, through hushed devotion and wonder, to the blaze of arrival at the cathedral. Heard by candlelight in St George's, Bickley, it promises to be an unforgettable evening.

Sine Nomine Singers are conducted by Daniel Gethin. Tickets are by suggested donation of £15.
